bin laden photo
I agree with Obama's decision to not release the photo. I really like what he said when he declared "we dont need to spike the football". Putting the picture out for people to see could cause trouble if someone was angry about his death and thats the last thing this country needs. They already got bin laden why flaunt it when that could create tension. Its unneccesary and who really cares to see a picture of a dead guy, knowing he is dead is good enough.

week 12 newspapers and magazines
Newspapers can remain relevant in the information age because there is still some benifits to looking in the paper. People look for jobs in the paper and especially now when so many are unemployed it is important to look for work. There are ads in the paper for a bunch of different things and people post them when theyre looking for some kind of help so its good for both sides. Another good thing about the paper is that you can get it delivered to you. Its also really cheap to buy and it gives you local news so you can know what is going on in your city.

sitcom analysis
The concept of American family has changed over the years as portrayed in the sitcoms we watch. Things change over time and new generations want to watch something they can relate to. The older sitcoms like Brady Bunch and Leave It To Beaver are more basic and show life as a typical American family at that time. Another thing about the older shows is that they don't show some of the things you see on sitcoms now like sex, violence, drugs, and language. They are more appropriate for the time period in which they were made.
Audiences have expectations when they turn on any sitcom. Almost all sitcoms are similar because they use the same structure. There is just a few settings and several or just a few characters. There is always a problem that comes up toward the beginning of the show and the rest of the show is dedicated to fixing that problem. People are also expecting to laugh when watching sitcoms because they are supposed to be funny as well as have a good plot for each episode.
If my graduation from stevenson was the plot for a sitcom it would take place at the school and at my buddys house where we all hangout. The episode would be about me having to pass a class in order to graduate. That would be the problem or issue that comes up in every sitcom and the episode would be about me doing everything i can to pass and maybe some funny things that happen along the way and in the class. The complication would be all the work i had to do and how it interferes with my life . The climax would be me passing the class and graduating.

the truman show
Other reality shows are similar to The Truman Show in a few ways. I know people who are obsessed with some of the reality shows out there just like the people watching the Truman Show were. In some of the shows people are having their lives taped and they're always in front of the camera like Truman. The difference is that Truman didn't know he was having his life taped and anyone on any reality show will know they're on camera. The public reception of reality tv is similar to that in The Truman Show because it has somewhat of a hold on society since so many people watch it, for example, jersey shore has everyone talking about it and watching it as annoying as it is it's extremely popular. The thing that's different is that the public would not find it okay to tape someones whole life without them knowing and force them to live one big lie like the Truman Show.

eagle and baby eaglets
I think the website has received so many hits because eagles are endangered. People want to see the birth of a new generation of eagles. Maybe people are also being patriotic. Eagles are our national bird. Theyre also really cute.
local tv news
Im not too big on the news i just never really watch it but if i had to chose i would watch channel 4 or 7. I dont like channel 2 because of its conservative views. I saw only article i remember seeing on all three sites was one about this 15 month old baby who was supposedly served alcohol at applebees. I dont thinbk the internet will mean the end of newscasts on tv because so many people watch the news on tv still and its just a routine for them like in the morning no one wants to go on the internet that early.
parent television council
Media violence may cause aggressive and antisocial behavior, desensitize viewers to future violence and increase perceptions that they are living "in a mean and dangerous world." - American Academy of Pediatrics
Average time kids spend watching TV each day: 4 Hours
I thought these two facts were very interesting. 4 hours is a lot of time to spend in front of a tv and thats bad because that causes other problems like lazier kids which could contrbute to the obesity epidemic. I dont agree with the other one so much. I think that if people are smart they see past these things. It takes some maturity but people have to realize that its tv and it isnt real life and thats not how things actually are.

Television tendencies
-sportscenter
-law and order: svu
-always sunny in philadalphea
I feel like i dont follow as many shows as other people. For the most part im probably watching one of these if im watching tv. Sportscenter is great because it tells you everything thats happening in the world of sports and its on ESPN all day. It targets a wide range of people, basically anyone whos a sports fan. Law and Order: SVU is always airing episodes on USA and my tivo recoreds them so its really convineint i can pick which episode i want to see and fast forward through the commercials. Its more of drama/action type of show and Its Always Sunny in Philly is a comedy on FX or Comedy Central and in my opinion one of the most funny shows tv has to offer.

image of a home
Living in a place as nice as the one in the article would be enough but having a slide to take you from part to another is just crazy. I think its really good idea because its different. Having a really nice house is one thing but when its nice and has something creative about it then its just makes it that much more special. The guy who owns it must be living the life if he's a pro poker player and bachelor with such a nice place in NYC. My idea of the perfect home is one thats big, obviously, and each room has a different feel to it. That way you never get bored of it.

ideas that will change the world
Jobs are crucial now a days. Not only is it hard to get hired but its also hard to keep it. People jobs are being moved to places like India and China for different reasons. The article mentioned how these countries used to be poor and have very little and we used to have it all but it seems like it is starting to switch. People here are losing jobs to people over there now they are buying all kinds of technology and other expensive things just like we do. The idea is that in the end this all good because we are becoming more connected and coopertive with the rest of the world.
The idea of using stem cells is always a contriversial one. I agree with the article and believe that using stem cells could change the world. Diseases are such a dark thing and if their is something out there to help people who are suffering then why not. Its not like thier is just one or two uses for them. They can be used to treat a lot of sicknesses. I think using stem cells is an important idea in transformiong how we think about medical ailments and how much they can hold people back.
The other article i chose was the one about youth and optimism. Maybe because im young and optomistic but i beleive thats a really important thing. Younger people arent respected when it comes to making important choices but the world needs to change how they see todays youth. Optomism is healthy and the world could always use more of it. Thats what younger people can bring to the table.

25 websites we cant live without
I was really surprised to see that google was number 12. After all the things weve learned about it and how successful it is i thought it would be in the top 3. Also you tube is 15 and facebook is 9 and i think my peers and classmates would have those in their top picks. I think i could live without the internet but if i had to pick 5 sites to keep i would chose youtube, google, facebook, espn, and zappos. Thats everything i really need out of the internet, entertaining videos, searches ,social networking, sports, and shoes.

tradegy in japan
I knew that what was going on in Japan was really serious but after viewing those links and seeing it more in depth i know a lot more. You only see or hear about certain parts of the story coming from the news but the internet is more free and theres more contributions to it than any news station so you can dig a little deeper. Watching the videos was really sad to see what they have to go through over there. I saw before and after pictures of places in japan that used to be really nice and then one day everything changed and they got wiped away. The one with dog was also pretty sad because he didnt wanna leave his friends side and everything around the poor dog was destroyed and it really captured the devistation. The internet is having a huge impact on the spread of information because it gives you so many options unlike the news on tv which tells you what they want you to hear. The interent allows you to search so many different sites and find what your looking for. This could help the cause since people can see just how bad it is and that could encourage them to do something to help.
viral video
http://www.secretseek.com/nph-page.cgi/001110A/uggc:/=2fjjj.lbhghor.pbz/jngpu=3fi=3dGv4fdT85SH4=26srngher=3dsife
I chose this video just because i think its hilarious and i died laughing when i saw it. Viral videos have a huge impact on our culture. Everyone knows youtube and probably uses it. Its so popular because so many people are turning to the internet for entertainment since its such a big part of everyday life and its getting easier to access with things like the iphone which puts youtube in the palm of your hand. Viral videos are only getting more and more popular and people are even becoming famous because of them. I deffinetly believe viral videos play a big part in our culture.

Advertainment
There are a lot of examples of advertainment. I didnt even know what it was until we learned about it and it. When i thought about it i realized that you see it everywhere. On american idol they advertise coke not by directly trying to sell you the product but they have those distinct red coke cups in front of the judges. musicians are even using products in there videos tell help advertise product, for example a car in a music video might be there to advertise.

impact of the internet on business
The internet has a huge impact on business these days. A lot of businesses have opened up and function because of the internet. Some businesses were ruined because of the internet. Places like borders where they sell books are not as popular anymore since books are online now. Amazon.com took a huge chunk of business because its so easy for people to just order books online instead of buying them in a store like borders. The kindle and the ipad also allow people to have whatever book they want in front of them right away on a small conveniant pad.
There is no doubt in my mind that the internet plays a role in the bankruptcy of borders. I know so many people who use the internet to get books and the book store is just out dated now. Although the internet isn't all bad for business because it creates jobs and helps companies to function more efficiently. There are a lot of jobs now that didnt even use to exist before the internet and even ones that involve using facebook and twitter. The internet is also helpful for advertising since so many people will see the ad and help bring in profit.

super bowl ads 2011
The superbowl commercials are always something to look forward too. It's part of the big game, instead of leaving to take a bathroom break or grab some food during the commercials you decide to hold it because you dont want to miss the funny one. Its part of the entertainment and its nice to not have to watch really boring comnmercials about things no one cares about like on everyday tv. Doritos and beer advertisements seem to be perfect for typical football fans who are watching the big game and they do a pretty good job of making thier product desirable. If a company wants to spend all the money that it takes to get air time during the game im sure it helps them in the long run just because their are so many people watching it that they have to make thier money back . Commercials during the superbowl will always be something to look forward to.
"Did the internet kill privacy" response
I dont think the teacher in this article should have been forced to resign. She did not know that students could see her pictures on facebook and if she did know im sure she would not have posted it. I dont even think the picture was that bad. She was holding up a glass of wine and a beer mug and parents were offended even though they probably drink too. Just because she is a teacher doesn't mean she should have to watch out for things like that. I think facebook should respect peoples privacy more, she thought her students would not be able to see her profile but facebook allows you to see anyones pictures now whether or not your friends which should be up to the person who's facebook it is.

response #3
When i read this article the whole story was new to me. I feel like i should have heard about that happening but i really had no idea. I don't watch the news really or go online to see it because I don't always care enough to go through the trouble. Mostly I just hear about things like this from the word of my family or friends. I think it's pretty crazy that all those people were trapped by all that snow, I will probably think twice next time i complain about getting my car stuck in just a couple inches of snow where it can be pushed out with the help of one or two other people and not a team of rescue firefighters. My response to the poll goes along with the other 20% who voted "what snowstorm", because i had no idea about it until i read the article. The people who voted the same as me are most likely similar in their ways of finding the news, they don't. They probably are like me and not to worried about finding the news, they just let the news find them instead.
entry #2
Teamwork is very important to me for a number of reasons. I've played football for years and i believe the game is a perfect example of teamwork at its best. No matter how good certain individuals may be if everyone isn't working together toward the common goal of winning then individual talent doesn't mean as much. Everyone has a role, a specific assignment that needs to be achieved, if one person doesn't do their job the whole entire team takes a loss. In the real world its very important to know how to be part of a team because your job could depend on how well you work with others. In one of the articles they mentioned the keys to being a good team member. You have to be able to communicate in order to work out problems that you have with others. Also, you cant blame others for your mistakes, it's important to have the respect of teammates and you wont get it by not taking responsibility for your actions. Those are just some of the things that it takes to be a good team member.

week 1 media quiz
The firts quiz i took i did really bad i only got 3 out of 10 and i really didnt know any of the answers for sure. It was mostly guessing for me. I was really surprised at the first one question. I really didnt think that people from ages 8-18 spent more than 7 hours a day consuming entertainment media that just seems like an awful lot of time in front of a computer or tv screen. Another one that caught me off gaurd was the one saying that a newborn has a better chance of survival in Slovenia than in America. I thought for sure that one would be false but i was wrong. The second quiz was a little easier i thought. I got 9 out of 15 correct, probably because i didnt have to guess on all of them. the first question was regarding the percentage of kids 8-18 who had tv's in thier room and i know so many people who have tv's in thier rooms now that i took the highest percentage which was 68%. I also knew that watching too much tv is directly linked with obestiy because that makes the most sense. People are watching more tv instead of exercising. the key at the bottom of the page told me that my score means i have a decent knowledge of media literacy which im okay with. There is still plenty to learn.
